VR-SFT: Reproducing Swinging Flashlight Test in Virtual Reality to Detect Relative Afferent Pupillary Defect

چکیده

The relative afferent asymmetry between two eyes can be diagnosed using swinging flashlight test, also known as the alternating light test. This remains one of most used clinical tests to this day. Despite test’s straightforward approach, a number factors add variability into methodology and reduce measurement’s validity reliability. includes small poorly responsive pupils, dark iris, anisocoria, uneven illumination in both eyes. Due these limitations, true condition may create confusion various observers quantify pupillary defect differently. Consequently, results test are subjective ambiguous. In order eliminate limitations traditional introduce objectivity, we propose novel approach exam, VR-SFT, by making use virtual reality (VR). We suggest that records subjects VR-SFT comparable. paper, describe how exploit features immersive VR experience reliable objective

Portable pupillography of the swinging flashlight test to detect afferent pupillary defects.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the ability of a portable, personal computer-driven, pupillometer to record the pupillary response curve during the swinging flashlight test. Also, to determine whether these response curves can be used to identify and quantify relative asymmetry in the pupillary light reflex between eyes in healthy volunteers with simulated afferent pupil defects (APDs) and patients wi...

How to test for a relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD)

Light source The ‘swinging light test’ is used to detect a relative afferent pupil defect (RAPD): a means of detecting differences between the two eyes in how they respond to a light shone in one eye at a time. The test can be very useful for detecting unilateral or asymmetrical disease of the retina or optic nerve (but only optic nerve disease that occurs in front of the optic chiasm). The phy...

Computerized binocular pupillography of the swinging flashlight test detects afferent pupillary defects.

PURPOSE To investigate the ability of a portable pupillometer, capable of 20-second binocular recordings of the swinging flashlight test (SFT), to detect relative afferent pupillary defects (rAPDs). METHODS Pupillary response curves were recorded from both eyes in healthy volunteers (n = 22) with and without simulated rAPDs (using neutral density filters (NDFs)) and in abnormal patients (n = ...

Isolated relative afferent pupillary defect secondary to contralateral midbrain compression.

BACKGROUND Relative afferent pupillary defects are typically related to ipsilateral lesions within the anterior visual pathways. OBJECTIVE To describe a patient who had a workup for headache and was found to have an isolated left relative afferent pupillary defect without any other neurological findings. DESIGN We review the neuroanatomy of the pupillary light reflex pathway and emphasize t...

Afferent pupillary defect in pineal region tumour.

A patient is described in whom an afferent pupillary defect was an early sign of a tumour in the pineal region. It is suggested that this was due to involvement of the pupillary afferent fibres between the optic tract and pretectal nucleus contralateral to the affected pupil.
